Stept On-LONELY
VALARIE MAE

Until I was handed Stept On's latest album Lonely, I had not yet heard of the band. However, having given the cd a spin, I can tell you that the album is rather uninspired. Although it my not be the ideal album, I can't say it's terrible either. Combining industrial and metal, the extreme guitars, extraordinary rhythm section, and thundering drums are the most appealing element of the record. I feel that the lyrics could have been written with more heart instead of seemingly being slapped together to that they rhymed well. Nevertheless, the earnestness is no less concievable. Chuck Budzina's voice is comparable to that of Wes Scantlin's (vocalist, Puddle Of Mudd) in such a way that at first it was hard to believe it wasn't he singing the album himself.

While each song has a definite message to deliver, they still tie in together as an anthem of angst, depression, and of course, loneliness. In my personal opinion I think this trend is losing it adulation.

Depending on what style, genre, or theme of music you're into, you may find that you enjoy Lonely greatly. I cannot speak for everyone, and I'm sure opinions will differ greatly; some wil like it, others won't. the best way to find out if you're digging it or not, is to give it a listen and decide for yourself whether Stept On will be lonely for much longer.
