Spike 1000 is one of those bands that lingers in your head well after the CD has stopped playing. You find yourself humming their catchy riffs, or singing with Shannon Harris's powerful lyrics. What exactly is it thatmakes Spike 1000 such a devastating musical force? The first thing thatcomes to mind is the lead singer, Shannon. This woman can wail, period. she pulls off yells that rival that of a male, and then she'll launch into this soulful singing that amazes the listener (which, at times sounds very similar to the Guano Apes' lead singer). The mixture of the two singing styles go hand in hand perfectly, it never feels as if Shannon is yelling because she wants to, but because that is what the music demands. The musical part of Spike 1000 blends beautifully with the vocals, and if one isn't careful, they will find their head and body bobbing to the ever present beat. Aside from the female singer, one of the more unique attributes of the band is when they stop all instruments, to have Shannon go off, only to pick up right back up without missing a beat. The greatest feature however is their equality to each other. Each band member shines with their contribution to the band, without overshadowing any one. Perhaps my only complaint with this CD is the length. This band is way too good for just ten tracks. It appears as if a band this talented would be capable of pulling of a few more astonishing tracks, instead of giving the listener the feeling that something is missing as track ten finishes. This CD is definitely worth the buy, regardless of length. Spike 1000 manages to stand out from everything else out, while maintaining this comfortable familiarity that bonds with the listener forever.
